Week 4

I spent all weekend staring at a screen and trying to start up my RA draft. It seemed like it took a lifetime to write my thesis, and even though I spent so long on it I still wasn't satisfied with the end result. If I'm being completely honest, I'm not happy with my draft at all. I think after writing the first paragraph writing the rest was reasonably straight forward and easy. I spent a really long time trying to figure out what the feminist message that Gaiman was trying to get across and honestly I didn't know what it was until we talked about it in class and I went to Professor McClure's office hours. But now I understand the role reversal of Snow White and the Evil Queen and how it pertains to women's roles in society.

I am thankful that in class we did so many activities where we analyzed certain texts, that really has helped my thought process while writing my paper. First I annotated everything in the story so that I know what I want to talk about, and I can refer back to the print out of the story that I have when I am stuck and don't know what else to talk about. With the short story Snow, Glass, Apples by Neil Gaiman there is just so much to talk about, my biggest fear is that my essay will be too long because I just want to point out all the little details that there is to talk about. Even though it's been a struggle for me I am still excited to be writing about Snow, Glass, Apples.

I am so happy I didn't choose to write my rhetorical analysis paper on I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. My essay would have been longer than the novel itself because I would have wanted to go into too much detail about the story. Even with Snow, Glass, Apples I've already written my three page rough draft, yet I have only talked about the very beginning of the story. Also I'm sure the majority of the class is writing their analysis on I Am Legend ,and if their papers are wonderful, mine in comparison will not be so great. Hopefully I am clear enough in my paper and the end result is adequate.
